At the highest point of the island is the taiga, the boreal forest. It's harsh and unforgiving, snow falls for much of the year and the dark evergreen that litters the ground is thick and deceiving. Very few mammals reside her, usually the lynx, cougars and other thick-pelted small cats can survive on a diet of birds, lizards and the occasional rabbit.
